33 WINGS learners successfully pass their external examinations
Just after the second semester had begun, the corona shutdown also threw WINGS’
semester schedule into disarray, as in-person events were no longer possible. Now it proved a real blessing that WINGS director Genia Lackey had the right instinct even before the school year began. More than she was probably aware of at the time, she was ahead of her time and had put together a wide range of online courses.
The team could now simply fall back on these courses, the well-developed structure that came with them and the detailed know-how, and switch the entire operation to online sessions via Zoom. In this way, lessons and especially the intensive exam preparation continued without any loss of time. The WINGS families, experienced in the online courses, were able to adapt to the changed routines without any problems and rise to top form.
Among other things, this produced a huge selection of presentation videos, in each of which the young people explain a topic from their lessons. Every lower-secondary pupil made three of these works – one each in mathematics, German and a subject of their own choice. The primary-school children likewise demonstrated their knowledge in a video with their individual presentations. In this way a truly vast treasure trove of knowledge was built up. At the same time, the WINGS learners always stayed in touch despite the social distancing that had been ordered.
When meeting in person was finally possible again, there was no holding back the joy of seeing each other, and the families enjoyed delicious ice cream from Allentsteig at the playground.
Inspired by all these shared experiences, 33 young WINGS learners successfully passed their external examinations at the end of the year, many of them with flying colours.
While the examinees and their families now start the holidays in a celebratory mood, Genia Lackey is already planning for the next school year: both online and in-person events will be offered again. WINGS thus feels well prepared for whatever the future may bring.
