5G satellites: the world in a radiation cage

5G satellites: the world in a radiation cage

For decades scientists, medical associations and those affected have been urging

that the health effects of microwave radiation finally be taken seriously and the precautionary principle be applied consistently.

Countless studies1) show unequivocally that the radiation triggers oxidative cell stress, weakens the immune system, opens the blood-brain barrier and is thus a trigger or accelerator for all kinds of chronic and serious illnesses. Mind you: this already happens at radiation intensities far below the official limits. The recent introduction of the fifth mobile generation, 5G, which numerous governments are pushing ahead hastily without scientific review, sadly shows no sign of insight yet. Even the wake-up call of the current coronavirus crisis – “virus meets weakened immune systems” – seems to go unheard amid the noise of hectic activity and endless decisions on measures 2).

The following article is devoted to the 100,000 planned 5G satellites3) and their possible effects on our planet and on life. Many fundamental questions arise that urgently need answering.

30 times more satellites

5G brings a number of innovations: because higher frequencies (up to 100 GHz) with a short range are used and the transmittable data volume increases by a factor of 100, a massive expansion of mobile phone antennas is necessary. Their number is to increase tenfold! As if millions of antennas on the Earth’s surface were not enough, tens of thousands of antennas in space are soon to join them. Leading the way is Elon Musk’s company SpaceX4) with its Starlink satellite programme, which wants to launch up to 40,000 internet satellites into orbit. For comparison: in December 2020 “only” around 3,400 active satellites were orbiting the Earth.5) That SpaceX is serious about its plans is shown by the fact that by early March 2021, 1,200 new satellites had already been placed6). Amazon, OneWeb, GalaxySpace and other companies also want to join the race for 5G supremacy and plan to launch a further 60,000 satellites. This will contaminate even the most remote corner of the Earth’s surface with microwave radiation. Besides: who knows what additional technologies will be built into the satellites that could, for example, be used for military purposes? And who owns space anyway? Who decides about it? So far, the authorities of the respective home nation can grant permits; in the case of Starlink it is the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in Washington D.C., USA (which is closely connected with the mobile phone industry). For uses, mind you, that affect the whole globe. Shouldn’t an internationally recognised body, free of all entanglements, decide on this?

Apart from these rather political questions, we should look at why satellite radiation could pose an unexpectedly great threat to life.
