The storm and the oranges
The violent storm “Gloria” flooded our groves.
Dear customers, there have always been storms in our region, as Raimon, a Valencian singer-songwriter, sings in one of his songs: “In my land the rain does not know how to rain: either it rains too little or too much.”
With climate change, storms are becoming ever more violent, with amounts of water and wind speeds that are truly frightening. That is exactly what happened in the week of 20 January: storm Gloria flooded our groves, and the hurricane-force wind destroyed, among other things, a large part of the harvest. Many oranges still hanging on the trees suffered damage to their peel, caused by the wind rubbing and knocking the fruit against the branches. Together with the moisture from the rain, this made the fruit spoil more easily.
After the storm – once the ground had dried – we went back to work. Even though we made a first selection during harvesting in the groves and a second selection in the warehouse – where about 30 % of the harvested fruit was thrown away – some of the oranges we shipped spoiled faster than would be desirable. We apologise if we have disappointed anyone. We have handled all complaints as well as we could, trying to make sure that our customers did not have to bear the consequences of the storm.
We are aware that not applying any kind of post-harvest treatment carries a risk, but we are amply rewarded when our customers appreciate the good taste of our oranges.
Fortunately, the negative effects of the storm are now behind us. The affected fruit has already fallen from the trees, and only good fruit is left on them. So our team is continuing to work to offer you the best and most natural oranges. Thank you very much for your trust!

Order now
We would like to point you to direct shipping from Ruth Palomero’s orange plantation in València. There you can order oranges and mandarins directly from the farmer to your home, without any middlemen. It (almost) doesn’t get any fresher or more convenient. We gain nothing financially from orders. We are simply happy to recommend it.
