Aquapol – from wall drying to a global vision

Four decades of technological perseverance, international cooperation and a consistent focus on sustainability: the 40th anniversary of AQUAPOL® marks not only an entrepreneurial milestone but also the transition to a new phase of development.

What began in 1985 with Wilhelm Mohorn’s invention of a completely new, energy-self-sufficient technology for drying walls has developed into an internationally established system. Today almost 60,000 AQUAPOL® devices are installed worldwide, and customer satisfaction has been over 95 per cent for decades. A figure that says less about marketing than about trust, effect and long-term stability.

The anniversary celebration at the Hotel Payerbacherhof in Reichenau an der Rax was deliberately more than a look back. It concluded the international partner meeting 2025, for which franchise partners from seven nations had travelled. In a festive setting, accompanied by music, ground fireworks and international exchange, it became clear: AQUAPOL® does not see itself as a finished system but as a living technological process.

AQUAPOL International team

This aspiration was particularly visible in the presentation of the new technology HYDRO Up. While AQUAPOL® has for decades successfully drawn moisture out of walls – without chemicals, without electricity, without structural intervention – HYDRO Up is directed at the soil itself. First pilot projects in Italy, southern France and South Africa show that targeted soil moistening can open up new perspectives for agriculture and ecosystems. Founder Wilhelm Mohorn formulated a vision that goes far beyond classical building applications: making dry and desert-like regions fertile again in the long term.

I would like to make the company and the Aquapol® brand even better known worldwide. For this we are looking for new franchise partners and new employees.

Michelle Mohorn

Managing director

Since 2019, operational responsibility has lain with Michelle Mohorn, who took over the company in a challenging phase and realigned it strategically. Under her leadership, AQUAPOL® has been consolidated, strengthened internationally and developed further technologically. For the coming years she announced a clear course of expansion – with new franchise partners, additional employees and the planned establishment of physical information points. The aim is to position the brand less dependent on purely digital platforms and to be more present again in direct social space.

A central theme of the anniversary celebration was the recognition of long-term relationships. Representing many, the almost 90-year-old German specialist adviser Klaus J. Graf, who has been associated with the company for decades, was honoured. His statement that AQUAPOL® is a “fountain of youth” for him points to an often overlooked aspect of technological innovation: its social and human continuity.

The international voices of the partners also underlined the special position of the technology – especially in the sensitive area of historic and listed buildings. Where invasive measures are not possible or not desired, the strength of a system based on physical principles rather than short-term interventions becomes apparent.
