Aquapol – energy-self-sufficient wall drying

The “Autarkie & Me” broadcast of 18.03.2026 covers, in the area of energy & technology, the topic of energy-self-sufficient wall drying. This time our guest is the company owner, Mag. Michelle Mohorn of Aquapol International. Radio SOL picture Aquapol

Damp walls are a common problem, especially in older buildings. The cause is often a missing or damaged horizontal damp-proof course, which allows moisture to rise from the ground into the masonry by capillary action. Besides this, there is also condensation, penetrating water, leaks and structural damage. A precise analysis of the cause is therefore the basis of any effective renovation.

Non-invasive wall drying without interfering with the building fabric

AQUAPOL® technology has been used for more than 40 years to reduce rising damp. It works without chemicals, structural intervention or an external energy supply. A device installed in the building acts on the moisture balance of the masonry over the long term, so that the walls can gradually dry out.

Especially for old buildings, listed buildings or sensitive structures, this method is a gentle alternative to conventional procedures.

Diagnostics and monitoring

What decides success is a thorough masonry diagnosis before the application. Among other things, moisture content, salt load, causes and structural conditions are analysed. The drying progress is then measured regularly, for example with the scientifically established oven-dry (Darr) method.

AQUAPOL® specifically targets rising damp. Other causes require additional measures: condensation problems are solved through ventilation and indoor climate, penetrating moisture through structural sealing. Salt-laden plaster can additionally hinder the process.

Serious wall drying therefore always includes analysis, advice, implementation, and measurement and documentation.

Dry masonry improves thermal insulation and lowers the energy needed for heating. At the same time, many users report a more pleasant indoor climate and the disappearance of typical damp smells.

New approaches and further development

With “HYDRO Up”, the principle is also used in reverse: soil moisture is deliberately guided upwards, for example for agricultural applications. This approach is currently under development.

The AQUAPOL® technology developed by Ing. Wilhelm Mohorn is today continued by Mag. (FH) Michelle Mohorn and has already been used in thousands of buildings worldwide. What always matters is professional analysis and application in the respective context.

Cooperation with the GAIA network

AQUAPOL® and the GAIA – Network for Self-Sufficiency share a common vision of independence, lasting effectiveness and responsible technology.

As an energy-self-sufficient, non-invasive solution for reducing rising damp, AQUAPOL® stands for a resource-friendly and future-proof approach to buildings.

GAIA sees itself as a platform for effective impulses that combines technological innovation, social responsibility and individual freedom.
