42 basic incomes to give away in Berlin

A Berlin association is giving away more than half a million euros in basic income.

A Christmas surprise: Mein Grundeinkommen is holding the “biggest basic income raffle of all time” and awarding 42 unconditional basic incomes.

On a perfectly ordinary Monday in December, in the middle of Berlin-Neukölln, we are making possible what others only talk about: that evening, 42 people will start a new life and receive 1,000 euros a month for a year, without having to do anything in return. It is the largest raffle of unconditional basic incomes the world has ever seen.

The basic incomes being raffled come from donations by more than 100,000 people who support us through crowdfunding. Taking part in the raffle is free and comes with no conditions. Anyone anywhere in the world can enter the raffle on our website until 2 December, 4 pm.

Mein Grundeinkommen is both a non-profit start-up and a young NGO. Donations are collected via crowdfunding, and as soon as 12,000 euros have been raised, they are raffled as an unconditional basic income of 1,000 euros a month. The response is huge: founded five years ago, today we are fuelling the debate on unconditional basic income with more than 1.5 million users and 100,000 large and small donors.
