Appeal for help for our web team

Super Typhoon Mangkhut has robbed members of our web team in the Philippines of their livelihoods.

The Pacific storm received less media attention than its Atlantic sister “Florence”, but it also caused considerable damage in its path. Our supporters in the web team are personally affected. Homes and livelihoods have been destroyed. We are asking for direct help.

Over the past few days we have tried hard to find out how our colleagues there are doing. Power cuts and truly difficult weather conditions have paralysed communication. Now we know: they have survived, but their livelihoods are gone – they and their families are out on the street, struggling to restore some order around them.

To help them, we are launching an appeal for donations through the GAIA association.

That way we can help together to ease their hardship a little. We would like to provide funds to rebuild their livelihoods. We know that money is worth far more there than here in Europe. So, by pooling our resources, we can help them rebuild their homes soon and make the place they live in worth living in again.

Despite their situation at home, Glenn and Czar are currently travelling many kilometres to an internet café that still works, in order to do their jobs, keep appointments and move projects forward – simply to earn badly needed money. Money they need for rebuilding and for everything else that is urgently required. A vicious circle. Let us pull together. Let us support them directly!

If you know of other worthwhile ways to help on the ground, please contact us by email at info@gaia-energy.org.

Last year we established a connection there, and since then we have been very happy with the close cooperation. Glenn, Czar and Melenico do a great deal to keep our website running smoothly and to maintain all the background functions continuously. They develop new ideas together with us and, despite the language barrier, help to streamline the administration further. The many software developers we approached within the association and beyond sometimes exceeded our budget many times over. In Glenn, Czar and Melenico we have found motivated people who work cleanly, quickly and with a focus on solutions.
