Autarkie & Me • Episode 21 • Regional supply – fish farming
Regional supply: top-quality local fish farming
The “Autarkie & Me” broadcast of 27.08.2025 is all about regional supply in the area of economy and finance – and thus also health and nutrition. This time Heinz Heinisch, a fish farmer from Lower Austria, is a guest in the Radio SOL studio, while gottfried joins via video.
From the corporate office to the fish pond: a path to sustainable food production
In the “Autarkie & Me” broadcast of 27.08.2025, fish farmer Heinz Heinisch talks about his bold step from successful corporate manager to passionate fish farmer. In conversation with gottfried (joining via video) in the Radio SOL studio, he talks about his motivation for this profound reorientation, the challenges along the way and the philosophy behind his fish farm.
At the centre: a commitment to the highest quality
For Heinisch, sustainability means treating nature mindfully and respectfully in order to preserve it for future generations. Care shapes the way the animals are treated: the fish grow up in a near-natural environment with low stocking density. And organic standards guarantee uncontaminated food of certified organic quality.
This conversation makes clear how conscious decisions in agriculture can not only promote people’s health but also contribute to a more resilient, regional supply.

The facility consists of 16 breeding ponds: 6 ponds for our fry and 10 ponds for our table fish. The ponds are built from regional black pine wood and the bottom is covered with gravel from the Schwarza river. This offers a near-natural habitat for our fish.
