Retrospective: Lungau get-together in July
The topic was “meeting people from other countries and cultures”, and the evening was once again well attended.
Because we are so used to it – partly because we have been brought up that way and are constantly told that we must see and pay attention to the negative first – this evening, too, the problems with foreigners, immigration and asylum came to the fore, although the intention had actually been for each of us to find our own (peaceful) way of dealing with events and facts.
Well, this time the evening simply turned out differently – or, to call a spade a spade, the original plan failed. It became clear that we are out of our depth with this subject, because official bodies and the people’s representatives leave us completely in the dark, so we have no choice but to react on the basis of our limited knowledge of the matter, our impressions and our patterns of behaviour. And so, depending on each person’s character, the reactions were more or less level-headed or emotional.
Nevertheless, the evening ended well, because a valuable and wise woman, who had come to a GAIA evening to find out more, gave those present a lovely gift: she described a method for living safely and well even in difficult and perhaps even dangerous times, and for protecting yourself from being swept along by the events around you.
