ClearPHONE – now it's getting really exciting

It was announced for June. Now the time has really come: FedEx has taken over delivery.

As so often with new technologies, Einstein’s theory applies: “Time is relative.” It took another 24 weeks of patience. Now the first phones are on their way to the people who backed the crowdfunding.

The “privacy-first phones” should actually have been ready for delivery in June 2020. Then, in August, we received pictures of the goods arriving from the USA. Technical difficulties during the final check then caused another three months’ wait. In October they wrote from Orem (UT):

“We apologize that it’s been so long since we have gotten back to you. Since our last communication, we found a few things in our software that we feel would make your experience much better if we fine-tuned them. We have been working hard on getting the final tweaks to the phone’s software and are just about finished. We will send you a tracking number once your phone ships so you will know when your phone is on its way. Know that we are working hard to make sure you have the best experience possible right out of the box.”

Yesterday this message finally arrived, and this morning it was confirmed with a FedEx tracking number:

“Good news! We have it ready and will be shipping yours out tomorrow! Tracking info will be provided once its shipped out :)”

In the midst of a global economic realignment and loud calls for more privacy and less surveillance, the first batch of 420 models landed in mid-August at the ClearCenter warehouse in Orem (UT), USA. “Early bird” backers are being supplied first and should receive their phones in the next few days. As a backer of the Kickstarter campaign, I secured one of the first units myself and am very curious about the new online experience.

What is a ClearPHONE? What makes it so different?

“ClearPHONE gives you control to block malware, ads, cookies, trackers, and backdoors to make your phone yours again.” At the back of our minds we have long known that a great deal of content on the internet is purely promotional, sometimes unsuitable for our children, usually lurking just around the corner, presenting itself invitingly everywhere and always just a few taps away.
