ClearPHONE 420 – an experience

It has finally arrived. Unpacking it was an experience in itself.

I simply switch it on, the screen lights up and it is clear to me: this is going to be “my” phone. I don’t regret the decision and am curious what else it will reveal over time.

The FedEx driver got a particularly warm welcome on Wednesday. A day earlier than announced, he finally arrived with “the little parcel from the USA”. Once the customs fees had been paid, he handed it over – the brand-new ClearPHONE 420. As one of the first users worldwide, I am finally holding it expectantly in my hands. Almost a bit like Christmas. And it feels good. I am in the process of reducing my digital footprint to a minimum, and today marks another milestone. Unpacking it is reminiscent of Apple devices; it gives a clean, high-quality impression. But a little more transparent:

“Made by a human on this planet from the ClearCommunity. Purchasing organised via New Zealand. Designed in Italy. Developed in India. Secured in Canada. Supported by the USA and the UK. Health package for the USA. And so on … from people for people …”

At the latest when you switch it on, there is a significant difference:

“Welcome to your new digital life. A life under your control.”

I am asked to scan the smart code in the box and make the phone my own. Excitingly simple and somehow unusual, but logical on closer inspection: if it is my phone with my data, why should I accept other people’s terms? Clear so far. The SIM cards fit, and the network and data connection to my home network is quickly up. With NFC, all Android apps can be moved quickly and easily from the old Android phone to the new ClearPHONE. I will certainly delete some of them soon :)

From here on things look a little different: the apps are arranged on the screen in a way that is still unfamiliar, but interesting. Later I discover the grouping into System, Google, ClearAPPS and my own applications. I quickly see through it. I would even say it is simpler.

My verdict

I don’t regret embarking on this adventure. It remains exciting for me. Because I am convinced that it is not only the web pages that load faster – my awareness of tracking is growing enormously.

One more thing in passing: after all the installation, transfer and set-up, the battery is still at 60%. Remarkable – it was last charged before shipping in the USA at the latest … or even earlier? Thumbs up!
