Free learning instead of school-leaving qualifications – podcast episode

I have a table tennis coaching qualification. It is the only official “piece of paper” I have anywhere. Whether it qualifies me to speak on my topics is another question. Whether anyone listens to me because of it is, too. Nobody has ever asked. Not even once.

And yet the greatest fear parents have when they think about free learning is this: What will become of my child without a school-leaving certificate? I understand this fear. Truly. But it does not stand up to a reality check. In the new episode, Chris and I gently but thoroughly clear this fear out of the way:

• What an Abitur (the German school-leaving qualification) really tells you.
• Why entrepreneurs today are specifically looking for people who grew up free.
• And why a year of backpacking teaches more than four years of school.

The fear belongs to the parents. Not to the children. No 5-year-old wakes up and thinks: Without a qualification I won’t achieve anything.
