Happy and free!
School seems to be an unavoidable stage of life.
Everyone has to get through it somehow. Young people put up with it, sometimes more happily, sometimes less. But what if a young person knows and feels exactly that compulsory lessons do not meet their needs?
Do we ignore their urge for freedom and self-determination and talk up everyday school life to them, just so that we parents do not have to get into conflict with the system?
Or do we listen to the young person, show courage and take their wishes seriously?
Marie-Helen – “Mimi” – is 16 years old and has not gone to school for four years. She is the daughter of a courageous mum who chose educational freedom for her daughter, even though she herself was still a teacher at the time. With her unconditional love and trust, she gave Marie-Helen everything a young person really needs.
In the end we all want the same thing – to be happy and to be free!
Marie-Helen
Contrary to the common idea that young people without school are just lazy and uninterested, joy, curiosity and zest for life simply bubble out of Marie-Helen. She is living proof that there is another way – a happy and fulfilled life – without school at all.
