Photovoltaics: cheaper than ever

Photovoltaics: cheaper than ever

The price of PV modules has fallen to an incredible 200 euros per kWp for polycrystalline cells

Nothing can stop the energy transition now, because renewable energy is far cheaper than any fossil or nuclear energy. Put it into practice yourself: seize the opportunity with your own CITIZENS’ energy transition – nobody else is going to care.

Who is still buying expensive grid electricity? Who is still waiting for a subsidy? This is the end of anti-dumping in Europe. The scrapping of minimum prices is making modules cheaper. The minimum prices for Chinese module imports are history: the European Commission has announced that the trade barriers have expired. This will lead to a further slump in solar module prices.

Last week, analysts in Taipei put the price of polycrystalline standard modules at an average of 26.5 US cents. This week it fell to 22.8 US cents per watt. 22.8 US cents is 20 euro cents. That puts the price of PV modules at an incredible 200 euros per kWp.

This development has come far faster than expected; I myself assumed that we would not see these prices until 2019/2020. It makes PV unbeatably cheap.
