Open letter to an idealistic young man

Dear Jakob, you are one of the idealists of your generation – you long for love and peace, you stand up for the environment, you campaign against antisemitism, racism and colonialism, you avoid words that anyone might find offensive, you defend everyone’s right to their individual political, religious or sexual orientation. I admire your idealism and your commitment! We really should join forces, because I share every single one of these positions with you – and without reservation!

For me, the best term for our shared ideals is the human family: every inhabitant of the Earth belongs to it, and no one may be excluded just because they hold an opinion, have a skin colour, a religious conviction or a sexual orientation that the authorities of their country dislike. Do you also agree that we humans could agree on ONE common goal, namely to respect life in all its forms and varieties? I would be delighted if you support that too! Because then we would have a bond that unites the whole world!

Ideological or legal disputes would largely become unnecessary if all laws were aimed solely at preventing harm to one or more living beings through an action, an omission or a verbal claim. In cases of doubt, advantages and disadvantages would have to be weighed against each other. Wars, as the ultimate threat to people, animals and the environment, in which everyone involved suffers harm, would automatically be ruled out. Just imagine the upswing the world would see if the vast amounts of money and brainpower wasted on armaments today were invested in projects that help improve and beautify the world!

Racism and colonialism, which served as reasons for war for thousands of years, would finally be history, and with them the insulting words that were always put into circulation to belittle the respective enemy. You would no longer have to worry about the environment and the climate either, because the laws protecting life would include not only humans but all living beings. You think such a thoroughly healthy and peaceful world is an unrealistic utopia? I believe this utopia could become reality very quickly if the media makers play along by denouncing what demonstrably harms people and the world around them, and by supporting what promotes life.

At present, unfortunately, the media you trust do NOT represent these positions, at least not without reservation. Large publicly funded media strive for balanced, truthful reporting, you think? When I was as young as you, I believed that too, because back then, as today, the big media talked so much about freedom of opinion, understanding between nations, environmental protection, peace and freedom. But have you ever tried to stand up for a person or a minority that is on the invisible blacklist?

Yes, there really is an invisible blacklist, and it is longer than you think! In Austria, for example, it includes the 28.8 percent who voted FPÖ in the last general election; in Germany, the 20.8 percent of AfD voters. Then there are people of all kinds of political orientation who call for a reappraisal of the controversial Covid measures, the peace activists who take to the streets against arms deliveries and rearmament, the sceptics on climate protection, the parents who want to fulfil their children’s wish for self-determined education, the followers of alternative medicine, the esotericists and so on and so forth. Incidentally, the Swiss peace researcher who popularised the term “human family” is on it too. All in all, I would estimate that at least a third of our society is currently being discriminated against by the ruling majority!

On public broadcasting, for which they have to pay licence fees like everyone else, such “dissenters” have no voice, let alone a lobby defending their freedom of opinion and speech. Do you think that is fair? What crimes have these many millions of people committed, I ask myself? Whom have they harmed? There are certainly a few malicious people among them, as in any other group. But condemning them wholesale is not one bit better than blaming all refugees wholesale for knife attacks or gang rapes, is it? The question that rather comes to my mind is who benefits from excluding so many different individuals and groups from the human family … ?

Anyone who calls them “right-wing extremists”, “antisemites”, “conspiracy theorists” or “threats to the state” is using combat terms that were deliberately put into circulation to divide the population. In my view, that counts as “hate speech” just as much as insulting all representatives of the other side as left-green woke cranks. Whether in private life, politics, science or theology – this is how propaganda works: FOR some = AGAINST the others! For the left = against the right and vice versa. This is how propaganda has always worked, and how it still works – until we understand that every goal, however noble, that splits humanity into friends and enemies is based at best on half-truths, but mostly on outright lies. The war of words can turn into a bloody war at any time, according to plan.

There are no great discoveries and advances as long as there is still ONE unhappy child on Earth. (Albert Einstein)

Truth is indivisible, just like love and freedom: “We cannot be free, until everybody is free” was a motto of the American freedom movement. “There are no great discoveries and advances as long as there is still ONE unhappy child on Earth,” wrote Albert Einstein. High ideals either apply to everyone or they are nothing but empty phrases.

Ideological prejudices are cultivated because they are so well suited to concealing real responsibilities: whoever tirelessly draws your attention to the speck in someone else’s eye wants to distract from the beam in their own! Ideological differences are perfectly okay as a hallmark of a free society. What is not okay, and is considered a serious crime all over the world, are genocide, murder, paedophilia, theft, fraud, corruption and lies. Passing off murderous wars as a necessary fight against fascism (formerly communism) is an age-old ploy of those who profit from war! When peace activists and journalists calling for peace are then denounced in the leading media as agents of hostile powers, you can easily guess who probably owns the leading media …

Don’t you also think it is time to end the ideological sham battles and finally bring the real crimes to light? Peace is only possible once the lies have been exposed, the crimes committed on all sides have been cleared up and those responsible, regardless of their party affiliation or social position, have been removed from all office. Then it will become apparent that in power structures it is often not the best but the most unscrupulous who rise to the top. Letting those currently in power dictate who the good guys and the bad guys are is therefore not a good idea! Certainly not in the age of AI that is just beginning, where facts and fake reports have already become inextricably mixed.

The unmanageable chaos outside at some point prompted me, like many other people before and after me, to look for the lost inner compass. (Since then I know why esotericism, i.e. looking inwards, is fought so bitterly by people hungry for power!) I can only wish you with all my heart that you succeed in finding your inner compass! It lets you distinguish right from wrong, important from unimportant, and gives you something to hold on to in the storm. Have the courage to look inwards when you have had enough of the constant back and forth, up and down, pro and contra outside. Don’t believe me – set out in search of your own truth, which you can only find in your innermost being. It is as unique as you are, yet at the same time of timeless, universal validity. And it will connect you with all people of goodwill around the world.

Glück auf! Yours, Alexandra

P.S.: In the next generation, I believe, many sensitive children will no longer lose the access to their inner world that we all still had as small children. That means they will remain aware that they are not little bodily beings with a manipulable mind, but high spiritual beings who have a body and a mind at their disposal. Perhaps one day you will take responsibility for such children, as a father or as a companion? The children will surely be happy to be able to communicate truthfully with you on a spiritual level, and you will learn things from them that even the cleverest AI has no idea about … :-)

2nd edition of “Lernen ist wie Atmen” (Learning is like breathing)

The 2nd edition of our book meets a completely changed readership.

In 2017, the idea that learning outside school was possible at all was considered the eccentric notion of a few outsiders. Since then, all parents, whether they wanted to or not, have had to deal with forms of learning outside school.

The number of children withdrawn from school has exploded since then, and alternative learning projects are springing up like mushrooms.
