Electric mobility – a global success story

Electric mobility – a global success story

In the premium class, Tesla with its Model S has taken the lead over Mercedes and BMW in Europe too.

E-mobility from Asia is completely taking us over – overrunning us. Tesla from the USA has already taken over the premium car market, and those stuck in the past still cling to hydrogen or hybrid technologies that cannot compete with e-mobility.

Tesla ahead of BMW and Mercedes in Europe

For a long time the German carmakers did not take Tesla seriously, but that should now finally be over: last year the Tesla Model S electric saloon sold better in Europe than any other luxury model for the first time. The Tesla was ahead of the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes S-Class.

Share of electric and hybrid cars in Norway rises to 53 per cent

For some time now, more cars with electric drive than fossil-fuelled ones have been registered in Norway, and from 2025 what will probably be a general end for cars with combustion engines is planned.

More than 16,000 electric buses and more than 13,000 e-taxis

Shenzhen now uses only electric buses on its scheduled services. By the end of 2017 the city of Shenzhen had subsidised the purchase of 13,000 e-taxis so far. The southern Chinese metropolis thus has the largest electric taxi fleet in the world at present.

BYD electric bus

BYD electric bus

In April of this year the Chinese opened their first electric bus plant in Hungary. With an annual capacity of 400 buses and an investment of just 20 million euros, the plant was rather small. But only about half a year passed between the announcement of the plant and its opening – and BYD carried on with modest plants but at high speed. From 2018, 200 electric buses a year are to roll off the line at another BYD plant in France. A third plant, which BYD operates together with its British partner Alexander Dennis Ltd., has already delivered its first electric buses to the transport operators of Liverpool and London.
