Generation Basic Income: summer party and activism

Generation Basic Income: summer party and activism

About our work and planned activities

We, Generation Grundeinkommen (Generation Basic Income), are an initiative from Vienna campaigning for the introduction of an unconditional basic income (UBI). We are a group of people from different backgrounds who share the conviction that a basic income would give every person financial security and the freedom to lead a self-determined life.

Summer party

GG picture 1

… on 24 July, weather permitting, we will meet from 18:00 on Vienna’s Danube Island for a picnic. We’ll bring the drinks and finger food, you bring the good mood and an interest in other UBI fans. Write to us straight away whether you’re coming and whether you’d like to bring friends. Then we can send you the exact location and the bad-weather option two days beforehand. We look forward to a lovely get-together in Vienna – the first GG summer party with you.

Activism

GG picture 2

… at the end of September 2024 Austria elects its National Council. No parliamentary party wants to speak up for an unconditional basic income, so we will. Before and after the election we plan to take to the streets with other organisations and promote the UBI with cool campaigns. The UBI is a great idea (almost a slogan), but far too few people yet understand it well enough to actively demand it. And yet our approach leaves no one behind – not even the environment. Elections are the time to get this across with banners and slogans. At the summer party we already want to present some ideas for campaigns – do come along.

Writing and reading

… you want to motivate the people you talk to to take a closer look at the UBI? Every Tuesday you can read a new argument as a blog article on our website (German) and pass it on. Haven’t found the right argument yet? Write to us with your thoughts. We are slowly gaining reach on social media and are interested in content and suggestions that make the UBI known beyond our bubble. Can you imagine supporting us occasionally with this media work? Then click here and someone from the editorial team will get in touch.

Looking back

GG picture 3

Looking back: at the beginning of June, Helmo Pape presented the advantages of a basic income financed by consumption tax for businesses and the environment in more detail to an enthusiastic audience at the Economy for the Common Good Vorarlberg. Thank you to GWÖ-VBG for the invitation!

Kick-off conference at the University of Liechtenstein

A UBI conference, “Climate protection meets basic income – ecological questions answered socially”, on Saturday 5 October revolves around the question “How must a basic income be designed so that it promotes climate protection?” Participation is FREE. Registration via the website.

Support

Strengthen Generation Grundeinkommen by becoming a member. It would be great if once a quarter you could give the value of a lunch for our work on the UBI. We have big plans and are looking for people, ideas and resources for, e.g., film and book projects, congresses … all the way to a UBI citizens’ assembly.

Have a lovely summer! Your steering group with Vicky, Helmo, Patrick, Marcel, Markus, Thomas, Michael, Manuel, Andi, Pepe and Harald.

Help introduce an income as a right to a life in dignity in Austria as the first country. We can end poverty and unemployment.

We organise events, discussions and campaigns to raise awareness of the benefits of a UBI and to win political support for its introduction. Our goal is to spark a broad public debate and create the conditions for a basic income to become reality in Austria.
