Kneipp treatments – what I do every day to stay healthy
The healing power of water
Water can not only prevent illness but can also be a remedy, provided the treatments are carried out correctly.
- Do you want to learn how to really train your immune system and get it into top form?
My health impulse for you today:
You have surely heard of Sebastian Kneipp and his great successes with water. Nowadays it has largely been forgotten how health-preserving water, and Kneipp treatments in general, are.
Sebastian Kneipp was also called the “water doctor”. His medicine was cheaper than conventional medicine: nothing but water. And yet Sebastian Kneipp made thousands of hopeless patients healthy with it.
What I do every day after getting up is the so-called Kneipp knee affusion. At first the cold water was a bit unpleasant and I really had to make myself do it. Now I can’t imagine my day without it; a knee affusion is simply part of my daily routine, just like brushing my teeth!
When can a knee affusion be used & what does it do?
The cold knee affusion is particularly suitable for tired, heavy legs, varicose veins, high blood pressure, headaches, migraine and difficulty falling asleep.
Contraindications: The cold knee affusion is not suitable for acute urinary tract infections, advanced arterial circulatory disorders, menstruation, lumbago, kidney and bladder diseases. (Dr Jürgen Birmanns, Gesundheit aus einem Guss)
Golden rules for the Kneipp cure at home: One of the most important is that you should never do a cold treatment when your body is cold. So doing a knee affusion even though you have cold feet is not good. It is important to do it only when your body is warm! That’s why I do it right after getting up, which is also a great pick-me-up! 🙂
You can also do a Kneipp affusion at another time of day. It’s just important that your feet are warm. You will find all the other rules in the book mentioned below. I’m also happy to show you what other great Kneipp treatments there are and what you should bear in mind.

(also called the “water doctor”)
The knee affusion For the knee affusion you need a pouring-tube attachment for your shower. With an adapter you can then quickly and easily remove the shower head and attach the pouring tube.
If you want to know more about other Kneipp treatments too, I can only recommend the following book. In my opinion it belongs in every “home medicine cabinet” anyway:
Book: Gesundheit aus einem Guss (German)
In this book, Dr Jürgen Birmanns summarises the water doctor’s rules and explains precisely the areas of application and effects of Kneipp therapy. Detailed descriptions of Kneipp measures for home use round off this guide:
- How exactly the knee affusion works
- What you should look out for if you want to do it at home
