The importance of wholegrain products for your health
Wholegrain is not the same as wholegrain – do you know the difference?
Bread, pastries, Danish pastries and supposedly wholegrain products. How much of them do you eat every day? Did you know that refined flours and shop-bought wholegrain flours are another main cause of so many diseases?
- You think you can’t tolerate wholegrain products? Then I especially recommend you read on.
- How do you recognise real wholegrain bread? What does “real” mean anyway?
My health impulse for you today:
Wholegrain flours and tasty products made from them: a powerful branch of industry! Many people buy the “usual” wholegrain products from the supermarket in the belief that they are doing a lot for their health. The will to eat more healthily is already there – that’s great!
But is all of this really still healthy for us? For a long time I thought, well, what we are sold must be healthy for us, otherwise it would be banned… unfortunately that is not the case at all. That was one of the big insights of my life.
All these wholegrain products in supermarkets are not “real” wholegrain products that keep you healthy in the long run. You have surely heard that much of it is merely coloured to look like wholegrain from the outside. Quite apart from the additives contained in a simple loaf of bread. I once heard that a shop-bought loaf can contain up to 30 ingredients (many of which do not have to be declared). When I bake bread myself, it’s a maximum of 5 ingredients – amazing, isn’t it?
If you eat shop-bought bread for years (and all the other industrial products with lots of additives on top), it becomes too much for your body in the long run. Not only because of the additives, but also because of the processing. Yes, you may not have a problem immediately, but your body becomes more and more sensitive to industrially produced products and the additives they contain. Then it is no wonder that people develop allergies over time. At this stage it can be very challenging to find any food at all that you can eat and tolerate well. In addition, the following foods make wholegrain products intolerable: factory sugar, juices, cooked or dried fruit, green and black tea, alcohol, coffee and possibly honey. People then give up wholegrain because they think they can’t tolerate it. Usually a big mistake! I have experienced this myself.
If you really want to stay healthy seriously & sustainably, another way is needed. A much better one. All the intolerances people have need not exist! Treat yourself to an easier relationship with food and gain more lightness in your life again!
What you can do
Let me tell you how I do it: many years ago I bought my own grain mill, which I really use every day! The heart of my kitchen! I can only tell you: a wholegrain pizza with freshly ground spelt flour is absolutely beyond comparison with anything else!! A dream!
To start with, it is also enough to find a real wholegrain baker (there are only a few) who grinds the flour fresh or bakes wholegrain bread from the whole grain. For you cannot recognise real wholegrain bread with the naked eye. So it is important that you know a baker you can trust. Sometimes health food shops also have a grain mill by the checkout. So you can buy whole grains in the health food shop and grind them right there.
There would be a lot more to say about wholegrain products & how you can put this into practice. But that would go beyond the scope here. I think I’ll make a course out of it ;)
In the following video I show you the difference from the wholegrain products you can buy in the supermarket. I think a lot will become clearer to you then.
You cannot recognise real wholegrain bread with the naked eye. The colour of the bread is no measure of its value.
