Guaranteed minimum income vs. basic income

Guaranteed minimum income vs. basic income

Again and again: basic income and guaranteed minimum income get confused

A basic income is always meant to be unconditional; a guaranteed minimum income (Grundsicherung) is always condition-FULL, because it asks whether you are in need. An interview conducted by our member Franz J. Lesjak shows (from minute 33) how easily the terms get mixed up.

Citizens’ initiative: 45,000 signatures by mid-July

“Our goal is a million or more,” enthuses Ingrid Farag, our deputy chair. Would you like to help us reach this goal? Tell the people around you about the fascinating possibility of introducing a human right to an income. The precondition for life, and thus for activity, is that basic needs are met. That is why an income is the precondition for work, not payment for it.

You can also sign online with a mobile phone signature (German).

The mobile phone signature (Handysignatur) is available free of charge.

Is the unconditional basic income a utopia? Our book tip for this summer holiday would be “Utopia for Realists” and “Humankind: A Hopeful History” by the Dutch historian Rutger Bregman (shown here on the left with our chair H. Pape).
