Trolleybus overhead line now charges electric cars in Kriens
CKW has built a powerful charging station for electric vehicles in Kriens.
It uses electricity from the trolleybus overhead line. Vehicles can charge environmentally friendly electricity for 100 kilometres in under 10 minutes, right on the main road.
Together with Verkehrsbetriebe Luzern AG (VBL) and AVÌA Schätzle AG, Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG (CKW) has put a fast charging station for e-cars in the Lucerne area into operation in Kriens. There, an electric vehicle can recharge renewable electricity for up to 100 kilometres in under 10 minutes.
To do this, the powerful overhead line network for buses is tapped. Because it runs along the main traffic routes, considerably less construction work is needed. The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) is supporting the project through its pilot and demonstration programme, with which the federal government promotes the development and testing of new solutions for the efficient use, transmission and storage of energy.

The new charging station at the AVÌA filling station at Luzernerstrasse 56 in Kriens is integrated into the MOVE charging network and is available to all customers with immediate effect. According to a press release, the innovative idea is not to remain limited to Kriens.
“Rather, CKW would like to help bring more charging stations close to towns,” says Jan-Niclas Viebrock, head of CKW product management. “We are interested in implementing further projects with partners.”
