Parents want grades because they trust an illusion
You might think someone had been at one of my talks :)
“School grades don’t deliver what they promise, says the educationalist Hans Brügelmann. They are neither objective nor comparable. More important than grades: pupils should learn to assess themselves,” he writes in an article.

DIE PRESSE: Grades don’t deliver what they promise?
Hans Brügelmann: Right. I understand that parents want points of reference, for example when it comes to their child’s further education. But then a teacher must also be able to say concretely: academically your daughter can certainly manage grammar school, but she has problems organising herself.
