New basic income citizens' initiative

New basic income citizens' initiative

Application for a new citizens’ initiative submitted to the Ministry of the Interior.

As authorised representatives of the basic income movements in Austria, Klaus Sambor and Ingrid Farag successfully submitted the application entitled “Bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen umsetzen!” (Implement an unconditional basic income!) in January 2020. It was approved on 6 February. Now it is time to take part. The initiative runs for one year.

Until the end of 2021 at the latest, everyone entitled to vote can now support the following demand at any municipal office in Austria with photo ID (or online from anywhere in the world with a mobile phone signature): Citizens' initiative for an unconditional basic income

We call on the legislator to introduce an unconditional basic income (UBI) by means of federal constitutional provisions. It should enable every person whose main residence is in Austria to lead a life in dignity and to participate genuinely in society. Its amount, financing and implementation are to be laid down in law following a process in which civil society plays a decisive part.

How can I take part in the citizens’ initiative?
