WINGS education offers for young and old
We started the new school year at Lake Allentsteig on 9 September.
The “Waldviertler integrative und ganzheitliche Schulinitiative” (Waldviertel Integrative and Holistic School Initiative) – WINGS for short – supports home-educating families throughout Austria. Networking takes place online via video conferences, chats, newsletters and so on.
The offers include information on the requirements in the individual school subjects, ideas for practising what has been learned through play, and work with Montessori materials. Online workshops cover, among other things, the study of language, literature, and English and Russian following the Birkenbihl method.
Since the association was founded in 2015, the mathematician (University of Vienna) Ursula Barthel has been teaching the complete maths syllabus to the lower secondary pupils.
From this school year, people who left school long ago can also benefit from her 15 years of experience as a tutor. Everyone is invited to her series of maths workshops to brush up and extend their knowledge. The aim is above all to make it easier for parents to support their daughters and sons, whether they attend regular school or are home-schooled. The first part, on “Geometry”, takes place on the weekend of 19 and 20 October 2019, from 10 am to 6 pm each day, at the end of the next intensive week.
During these monthly meetings in Allentsteig, the WINGS members review the online content of the previous weeks and go more deeply into a particular topic each time.
In September the week was held under the motto “Empower the Adult”.
The Siberian Cossack Andrej Karimov (family psychologist, ethnologist and master of the self-defence and martial art Systema) offered parents inspiration and ideas for accompanying young people in his participatory talks, such as “Understanding emotions properly: the importance of emotions in child development” or “The happy woman: dealing with social stereotypes regarding the role of women”.
In October, Gesine Otto comes to WINGS with “More fairness in our everyday lives – games in RED, YELLOW and GREEN”.
What might RED games be? What characterises YELLOW games? And what about GREEN games? We will find the answers together in this workshop. We will also look at what fairness means and how we can recognise it. Finally, we will turn to the question of how we can, for example, change the existing rules of RED or YELLOW games so that they become GREEN games! The whole workshop is based on the principles of mediation, which are explained in an easy-to-understand and very vivid way. It ends with a very lively book presentation that illustrates the messages of the workshop superbly.
On 16 October 2019 at 2 pm, in addition to her maths workshop, Ursula Barthel invites you to a soap-making session.
If nature calls you, you can join Waldviertel expert Esch Navar on 17 October 2019 at 2 pm for a walk through the middle Kamp valley, discovering the river sanctuary of the Kamp and the ruins of Schauenstein Castle.
